About Maxwell Air Force Base

Maxwell Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation in Montgomery, Alabama. It was the original home of the Wright Flying School, where the Wright brothers established the first civilian aviation academy in 1910. The base today is home to Air University, the intellectual and leadership center of the Air Force; the Mitchell Institute, an independent, nonpartisan policy research institute; the 908th Airlift Wing; the Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate; and more than 30 tenant units.
