LOW-POWER WIDE AREA (LPWA)

Optimized for IoT

Connect devices with a highly secure, cost effective, reliable IoT network. The LTE-M and NB-IoT networks are designed and optimized for IoT connectivity.

LPWA benefits

Connectivity networks designed for IoT

Availability

LTE-M and NB-IoT are currently available on the AT&T network in the US and roaming carriers in select other countries.

Applications

Tracking pets, at-home patient care, smart meters, and monitoring assets in motion are a few use cases that LPWA connectivity enables.

Licensed spectrum

Eliminates the potential for signal interference from unlicensed spectrum interference such as WiFi.

LPWA – Designed and optimized for IoT

The networks IoT needs from a company you can depend on

  • Coverage extension

LTE-M and NB-IoT are available in challenging environments such as underground areas and deep inside buildings.

  • Extended battery life

Extended battery life enables IoT sensors to run for up to 10+ years without replacing power modules or having to stay connected to the power grid.

  • Device management and monitoring

LPWA is designed to support a massive number of connected IoT devices. Deploy, manage, and monitor with platforms to help manage costs and simplify deployment.

  • Mobile carrier advantage

Highly secure, carrier-grade connectivity based on 3GPP standards.

Connectivity Management with Control Center

Deploy, manage, and monetize your connected LPWA devices in near real-time through AT&T Control Center.

Must use AT&T approved IoT LTE-M or NB-IoT device. Each device must have a separate unlimited data plan. Pooling data across devices is not available. Excludes applicable taxes and fees. Charges not pro-rated if service cancelled before end of term. Maximum throughout speed on unlimited plan is 64kbps. May not be used to establish a continuous, unattended connection to the AT&T network. In the event of abuse, AT&T may proactively reassign customer to an IoT pooled data plan upon notice to customer.

May not be used to establish a continuous, unattended connection to the AT&T network.  AT&T may proactively reassign customer to an IoT pooled data plan upon notice to customer, unless prohibited under customer’s agreement or regulation.

Approved modules and devices can be found at https://att.com/iotdevices/.

LTE-M has a higher bandwidth and lower latency compared to NB-IoT. LTE-M is a better fit for use cases that may be latency sensitive, require over the air updates, or applications that require devices in constant motion.
