Frequently asked questions
Why is AT&T moving from copper to fiber?
Currently, AT&T provides phone and internet service to your business using copper wire technology. We’re replacing the copper wire you currently use with new fiber optic technology to offer improved network performance.
What is fiber optic technology? How is it better?
Fiber optic technology transmits data by sending light along thin glass fibers. This allows data to travel over the fiber optic cables faster, more efficiently, and securely when compared to copper. It can transmit far more information with greater fidelity over greater distances.
How does this upgrade from copper to fiber affect my business?
We’ll need to install fiber optic equipment and transfer your service to our fiber optic network. You need to call us at 855.788.7775 to set up a time for an AT&T technician to come out to your business. Make sure your appointment is no later than the date specified in the notification letter to avoid your existing service from being disconnected.
What are the installation costs when upgrading to AT&T Business Fiber?
We have upgraded the network in your area to AT&T Fiber internet service. There is no charge for this transition, but a technician appointment is required.
What speeds are available on AT&T Business Fiber?
AT&T Business Fiber has plans that deliver speeds up to:
- 5 GIG *
- 2 GIG *
- 1 GIG
- 500Mbps
- 300Mbps
- 50Mbps
* In select areas. Limited availability.
Will I need to be at my business for the AT&T technician visit? How long will it take?
Yes, you will need to be present and available during the installation, which should take 2 to 4 hours. Our technician needs to access on-site equipment and your help choosing the best installation options to maximize coverage and performance for your business.
Is my current internet service going to change?
Your internet service will have the same basic functions and features, but your current service plan will not be available after the move is complete.
Will devices that rely on my telephone service, such as fax machines, security alarms, and medical monitors be impacted by this upgrade?
Any devices that rely on your telephone service should be able to operate the same way after your service is transferred to our fiber optic network.
