FAQ
FOTA stands for Firmware Over The Air. This is a standard process where device firmware (may also be called device software) is updated usually over Wi-Fi several times a year. The firmware may be a major operating system (OS) update or it may have new device features or bug fixes or security patches. Premium devices will often get updates almost monthly. When the update installs, it will reboot the phone and be offline for about 10-25 minutes.
AT&T's E-FOTA for Android is a managed service where we do most of the work while getting guidance about your company operations and firmware update preferences. We provide a web assist interface to provide reports to you as well as receive changes to your preferences. We can update any Android AT&T device. We also zero-rate updates that go out over cellular.
Samsung's E-FOTA is managed solely via a web console where you are fully responsible for tracking and initiating all updates. This service is solely for Samsung devices. Updates over cellular are NOT zero-rated.
For AT&T's E-FOTA for Android, we can perform several updates to chosen devices but it is best to experience its on-going benefit as a managed service over the course of several months. There is no annual commitment.
Samsung E-FOTA is available for trial of up to 30 devices for 90 days.
