IDC MarketScape names AT&T Business a major player in CPaaS

AT&T Business has been named a major player in the “IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Communications Platform as a Service 2021 Vendor Assessment (doc #US46746221, May 2021)” for its comprehensive portfolio of API-based cloud communications services.

Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) is a cloud-based platform that enables developers to add real-time communications features to their own applications without needing to build backend infrastructure and interfaces. An application programming interface (API) is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other.

IDC MarketScape honored vendors whose cloud communication platforms offer multiple embedded APIs, including chat, SMS, voice, video, and related authentication and payments APIs. Vendors also had to have processed at least 1 billion API transactions or voice calls in 2020.

AT&T Business is being recognized for establishing and growing its own CPaaS platform. “Over the past two years, AT&T has made tremendous strides in standing up a comprehensive portfolio of API-based cloud communications services,” the report said.

AT&T is unique, the assessment says, in the provision of self-service communications APIs implementation as well as AT&T-developed custom API-based applications. The AT&T API Marketplace provides businesses pre-packaged software code to embed in their websites and existing applications and platforms. With AT&T API Marketplace, businesses can easily add or upgrade services to their websites, such as chat, SMS, voice, video, and two-factor authentication, as well as contact center technology.
